This writing came from reading an article on ft.com called 'Obama must face the rise of the robots'.
Work work work is 666 - never comes the 7 - the fulfilment.
But the 7 is not merely the symbol for 'job done - lets have time out for leisure' - but is that in consciousness which recognizes the fulfilment of the desire through the work and knows it Good. That is to say the aspect of awareness that fulfils the innate function of Life to "Know Thyself".
This cannot be substituted for AND be fulfilling. To fulfil a mechanical destiny is no fulfilment at all.
The goals associated with "getting" - whether that be getting wealth and power or getting more control - a better handle on manipulating mind or matter - are ALWAYS an expression of a sense of lack or fear and thus extend that consciousness such that, within it, one can never rest and Know that Life is Good.
Indeed the attempt to conquer and control life leads to a limiting process in consciousness such that man makes of his mind a machine. For Man has forgotten the nature and function of being amidst the idolatry of his own thinking.
Technology serving shallow and mechanically conditioned desires is blindly destructive and self-seeking. Wisdom is the discernment of truth - not in a philosophical sense of defining or determining truth - but of listening beyond our conditioned thinking for the true nature of an event or relationship and the true desirability or value of the movement of response.
I propose that Maslow's pyramid is upside down - and that all of what is beneath the apex is in fact only meaningful within its context. But Meaning is not as determined or defined by human thinking and then embodied in action - it is the very nature of the action itself in true light.
We do not see simply because we have effectively programmed our minds to see something else. The Faustian pacts by which we trade our Soul for power are the result of the 'devil' of our own wish to deceive ourselves - to become powerful and special in our own right.
Now those who get to wield the levers of the new Wizard of Oz may feel that this technology is for the benefit of all mankind - simply because it suits their current appetite for power over - rather than relationship with. But the loss of awareness of Soul is the gain of a meaningless existence - regardless of the spin that may be set upon it.
The machine is already installed and programmed in our minds - indeed we take it AS our mind! - The expression of this will continue in terms of the manual override of Life via technology of ever subtler interventions. The purport to serve Life is the appeal to justify technological 'answers' to issues that are much more complex expressions of problem in consciousness - and technology is being employed to insulate us from the true feedback in which a process in consciousness can find true healing or resolution. It insulates us from each other and enables a virtual existence to enact and transact hollow relationships.
The unfolding of the new technology offers a wake up opportunity to our minds - to our thinking - to the foundations we have been working, living and thinking FROM. The 'ghost in the machine' has it back to front. The machine is an artefact of MInd - not a mind or lots of minds - but Mind.
As you give so do you receive, is a law of Mind. Man's thinking has sought to control Life - himself, others and the world - and this leads directly to an experience of being exactly so controlled. We call the result, 'The Human Condition' - and we get stuck there because we do dot awaken to that it is a current conditioning and not a set condition. Until we change our mind about our mind - it runs a program of divide and rule, limitation and depletion, suffering and loss - for the sake of passing vanities.
Yes - there is a wonderful capacity and function of the providing of the means to fulfil vision and desire. But it needs to be truly felt of it will simply add further layers of entanglement to already ihtractable problems. BUT powerlessness is the beginning of humility and the waking to the need for true discernment. I sense that little of anything I write here can find an ear until the pride of our human thinking has been revealed to be all of a false foundation.

Look to the Foundations!
I cant help feeling that those who are most privy and powerful with regard to the true nature of the system, set in motion an exploitative shift towards false promise and deceptive protection rackets such as to milk the many - then bleed the many - to maintain their appetites.
Then when the complexity and vacuousness of the whole structure begins to topple, surf or manipulate the crash in such a way as to feed on the carcass.

I have the mental image of the herding of herring by predators such as killer whales. I'm sure you've seen this on tv.
No one will blow the whistle who is themselves part of the same mindset. Honesty costs too much - and real solutions cannot be imagined or countenanced from the perspective of power over and 'getting from'.
And if anyone does, will it not fall on stony ground or be choked by weeds? Unless of course the desire for honesty is realised to be the foundation of true and just relationship, and communication in which trust and worth are to be extended, as discernment guides and uncovers.
But if our personal mind is the same a pattern of manipulative control, we do not have it to share.
When things fall apart. Look to the foundation. When true foundations are substituted for with mutually agreed derivatives, there IS no foundation.
A house built on sand.
Withdraw investment of attention, energy and faith in that which undermines well being and give it into what you appreciate. For what you appreciate, appreciates. A true appreciation is tangibly felt - and shared. It isn't a private mind but a cultural event.
There IS reality beneath the distortions and the spin and we have forgotten what it is and what is its true expression and fulfilment. Because we wanted something else. False promises don't only lead astray, they lay waste.
Trust is NOT a confidence trick. It is the most fundamental expression of being - because our being is not the commodity as is packaged and sold to a disconnected thinking.
Give what is due to the demands under which we are working within - but no more. And give the recognition and loyalty of your heart to the source and nature of a tangible and shared appreciation of the presence of Life in expression.
We cant untangle this mess - but we can be open to a different perspective from which and entirely different appreciation brings renewal and support for a more integrated way of life.

Advertising, propaganda and addictive consumption
What has advertising become? What does it give and what does it cost?
Is it not a propaganda war of coercive corporate intent in fighting for 'mindshare', and branding and yet united in broadcasting a culture of consumption to a population that is incessantly implanted with false associations, in order to condition and trigger reactions deemed favourable to private interests?
This tool for Corporate intent upon a passive population is yet a kind of protection racket upon smaller independent business, who must pay dearly for minimal visibility. It also corrupts our media such that it becomes an extension of such intent rather than a true service of information.
'The century of the self' by Adam Curtis (freely available on youtube) gives an overview of the growth of an insidious intent in our cultural development.
The nature and role of advertising, like so much else that undermines a the true wealth and health must be seen for what it is - and in the context of what life truly is and how it works.
The mindset of prevailing upon each other, in identification with an exploitive GETTING mode - no matter how 'balanced' the 'free market' is supposed to be, (look at the balance of competing interests!!!), can never serve anything but to hollow us out and strip our assets for a short term cash that evaporates.
There is a lawful mode of communication that honours the worth of the other and thereby keeps it for oneself and shares value. As long as we consent and subscribe to be treated as targets for a blatant manipulative disregard - so will such behaviour - and the mindset beneath it, violate and undermine the peace. For it does.
A true balance of interest is of a shared purpose in common. Divide and rule has ever been the mindset of deception, using false promise and instilling or promoting fear as a means to gain entry and become your 'guide and protector'.
Those who effectively own the financial system are advertising their guidance and protection to governments and nations, leading them into slavery and impotence of debt and ever deeper entanglement in a web that cannot be escaped while deception passes as true.
The call is for the honesty of heart that first acknowledges the disease of addiction and seeks above all else to uncover the discernment of true relation.This is not the result of ingenious thinking or problem solving, but of insight, wisdom and true dedication and commitment to a greater purpose than private self interest. As long as we look to others for this - we are deceived.
We must look to others as an opportunity for extending worth, growing trust and in a shared appreciation.
No juggling or conjuring of billions or trillions of money can buy a true foundation, but only serves to delay acknowledging the false.
The voice for fear is very loud now - but only proportionate to the desire and attention with which we feed it.

Making sense of of pre-sense prior to pre-tense
We are one sense; feeling.
Awareness feels tones, qualities and textures of thought.
Awareness is not directly aware of anything but its own objects and is in no way separate from its objects.
Self awareness is a movement of recognition by which awareness knows itself aware amidst the knowing of its object. When such knowing identifies with an image or thoughtform of itself, it creates an interference pattern in the reflection of Mind, which is never static though what Mind is never changes.
This sense of a self identification has no sense of itself differentiated excepting that while identification occurs the totality 'collapses' as an ideational event of specificity and yet dissolves to totality. This collapse is experience of limitation and yet not exclusively identified. and so is concurrent with infinite or unbounded communication (Totality).
The apparent separation of consciousness as exclusively identified with limited experience is a matter of focussing of desire as attention, and interpretation of resulting experience via attraction and repulsion.
The duality of such interpretive comparisons of values reflect the active identification, and comparison of states - memory - provides the building blocks for the evolution of interpretive identifications to interact as story or process of becoming. The assumption of personal responsibility or guilt, for the sense of disconnect that this process engenders brings with it density, and opacity of experience in which a 'body' of light is covered by a symbol of separated and separating consciousness. This proxy or virtual self attempts to deny the Mind in order to maintain its mind. Yet all of the power of creating its experience is directly coming from Mind - because the separation is not actual - it is not possible to be separate from Mind and exist - even in virtual identifications of an interpreted reality.
The fulfilment of function is in reopening mind to Mind as an integral wholeness of being. To be 'in the world but not of it. Mind is invisible only because it is all pervading. Its in our face - it is our face. It is invisible to the egocentric identification. But it remains true, that awareness feels or knows its object and recognizes itself in the extension of itself.
In a conventional sense we can realize in all honesty that we do not know what we are or what anything is for. This allows native being to reintegrate and transform the interpretive sense to become porous or transparent instead of self conflicting and opaque. This may be experienced as insight, inspiration, integrative answers or prompts of guidance and direction.
It comes from beyond the capacity of control and it comes to an at least temporary suspension of control and is recognized by the desire that called it forth. Which is already moving before you knew you wanted it.
This is sketching - for feeling into. It is not an intent to define or defend as a 'body of knowledge' or point of view. It starts with the presumption of awareness. Not self, not world - but awareness or Mind.

Scientism misses the point with its body of knowledge
I read the Guardian article "20 amazing facts about the human body"
And wrote:
Ha! We don't experience molecules! Our experience is a mental construct - including the virtual identity that is called consciousness (but is not so conscious as we presume). The article hints at this by acknowledging that we are not as in control as we believe. I sense this fact is vastly understated.
Science reveals man to be a mechanism - albeit an organic one in which a mind, or awareness of existence somehow occurs as an effect of chemical and electrical impulses! But this perception is simply the result of LOOKING with a mechanism - or through a distorting and filtering lens darkly.
There are facts about the body that are directly observable to awareness but completely beyond the capacity of thinking. As said above the mind sees thinking and thinks it is seeing, but true seeing is more akin to letting vision be than the complex process we have learned and called seeing.
Experience is not just a personal construct, but a cultural or relational construct, and the image and experience of body - and indeed of self and world - is not as fixed as we have come to believe. But our beliefs often are.
The nature of awareness could be called light. The objects by which awareness knows itself being, are qualities of being.
That which identifies the individuality of you is the tangible and visible signature of qualities that simply are.
The mind that we think we think with is tiny but has grandiose pretensions.
The Mind in which all of this is actually in, and of, is the realm of true grandeur.
Such intuitive sense may stir from looking at the stars. It isn't that Mind made or created it as stuff - but that Mind is the Totality of Unified relation and communication, of which our tiny mind is almost completely hidden from, within its walled off body, and in its thinking perpetually distracted.
The article is good for saying, "nothing is what you think!" But to replace what we think with disconnected mappings is still what we think about rather than intimately know. Intimacy is undefended and not inhibited or withheld or 'separated'.
Science does not reveal Life - nor guidance in life - and is unconscious of its own mind of participation - even though it focusses on the very lowest common denominators of materiality in order to find a consensual reality.
That said, the scientific willingness to challenge and enquire and uncover is excellent - but each of us is moved to uncover the context such that our mind opens to receive the More of all that Life Is - rather than focus on the content or forms of experience as if to define them all ever more minutely and here's a give-away, gain CONTROL over one's experience.
The so called Unconscious is equally lumped with Superconscious for both are considered 'threat' by the defence mechanism of a separative consciousness.
It will become apparent that the complexities uncovered in expanding the edges of scientific discovery will reveal further complexities. Life itself cannot be reverse engineered - even if some of its processes can be taken from the whole and then replicated or manipulated.
And that is the offspring that reveals its father; 'replicated from the whole and then manipulated'. But our true Father is not a 'getting' via a process of divide and rule - but accepting in true receipt and sharing or extending as we have received.
This is gratitude and joy - Life.
Religions may have become devalued with superstition and rigidities of belief, but at least pertained to offer some service in waking up to Life!
Dissociating from presumptions and beliefs in order to enquire more radically or directly into the true nature of life is healthy - excepting we then dissociated from the Living Universe in order to study its body dissected. Dissociating from real relationship is a defence mechanism - not a basis for revealing truth.

Holocaust Memorial Day
When I was a boy and first heard about the Holocaust, as an extremely
shocking example
of a capacity to treat fellow human beings without a shred of humanity,
and of suffering such an industrial scale and mentality - I couldn't
begin to understand it - and on
some level of my being an answer came of a silent recognition… It all
grows out from the capacity to blank another human being.
That was the boy. The realisation is the same but I can articulate more now.
The capacity to BLANK another human being is the fruit of a mutual agreement to deny true presence. This becomes the cultural environment in which a mentality justifies itself at the expense and sacrifice of the reality of the other.
No matter what arises from this in terms of form and magnitude, it will express its seed idea. The mind in its role as justifier MOSTLY keeps the true cost hidden. But it cannot Be hidden excepting that the mind hides in its own 'realities' and becomes victim to its own thinking as if it was Reality itself.
To be possessed of loveless thinking is to be manipulated by a tyrannous will - believing one is free and justified in exercising power upon Life Itself. This is the sacrifice of Innocence to a god of self-image and its justification is in the projection of hatred onto OTHERS.
The reaction to this mentality replicates it - to hate and invalidate and BLANK the perpetrators who are but the puppets of their thinking - even those who think they control their thoughts or the thought of others.
The action of denying our mind is BLANKING. This is a way in which we sacrifice our true presence in order to posture a false one. As long as false presentations can be backed up, authorised or justified by the belief in the power of guilt, so will the BLANKING mind be hidden or protected.
The crucifixion of Innocence is the picture of the exercise of a personal power upon Life.
It seems inevitable or inherent to our nature and our perception of the Universe as a machine of death - in which man thinks to make his mark or prevail in fantasy.
But the simple Fact is, that love's presence is here to be accepted - or it could not be denied!
To use suffering as sacred has two aspects. We are cut through to the very Soul of Feeling. And the association of such with the event makes it Holy. But what is truly holy is not the wounds, but the Life.
The shadow of wound is not intended to be eternal. But is a cutting that offers a deeper or more integrated healing.
The mind that uses wounds as weapons is a mind seeking power for itself.
Only the powerless seek power - who have denied their presence in another and now seek to 'regain' what they feel they lack or have had taken.
I still cant understand suffering. Whether of millions or of one. When I 'let the dead bury the dead' it is not a disregard to the Life in anyone or anything - but of setting no mental image of self or life or God, in place of love's presence now. For such is the capacity to BLANK G-d.
To attempt ideas for conveying what is felt in the heart's intuition is fraught with the likelihood of confusion, because the mind that thinks it thinks alone IS confusion.
BLANKING is so 'normal' to a culture that worships power over Life that we don't realize we do it. And the defences against uncovering such a fact are the forces that murder on a global industrial scale as well as BLANK anything that registers as threat to the thought system that we associate with our power to live. But it is a false association and the foundations of our thinking not only can - but must - be questioned, if we are to become free of a tyrannous will, and restored to love's presence as true power shared.

To attempt ideas for conveying what is felt in the heart's intuition is fraught with the likelihood of confusion, because the mind that thinks it thinks alone IS confusion.
BLANKING is so 'normal' to a culture that worships power over Life that we don't realize we do it. And the defences against uncovering such a fact are the forces that murder on a global industrial scale as well as BLANK anything that registers as threat to the thought system that we associate with our power to live. But it is a false association and the foundations of our thinking not only can - but must - be questioned, if we are to become free of a tyrannous will, and restored to love's presence as true power shared.

Human being and the human conditioning
What is human Being?
When meeting this question, where do you look for the answer?
You are the answer! - and not the constructs and definitions of a control mentality that does not know that you are.
It seems as if a particular kind of disconnected thinking has taken precedence over the function of human Being such that human being is suppressed, blindly exploited, and rendered largely unconscious, by a conditioned programming of self defeating and self destructive thoughts, beliefs and conflicting identities. These run like a virtual reality on top of our being and seem to have come between us and our being - simply because we believe we are as our conditioned thinking dictates, and the whole thing runs unquestioned simply because we believe we already know and build on that instead of connecting directly to what knowing is. This building grows ever more complex in attempt to maintain and prevail a sense of self in control. Far from growing true wealth it grows debt. Its ingenuity and presentation is the art of guile and the assertion of 'power upon'. It does not see or appreciate power of shared purpose - except its form - which it absorbs and subverts or 'kills' in order that it can survive.
Knowing IS being - but true knowing is not separated off from the known, to be used as a personal possessive self validator. Prometheus eats his own guts out unknowing - and there is no end to it while he maintains a disconnect between stealing the Light and suffering limitation. One cannot steal the Light, but only runs off with a local copy. But the wish-belief in a wilful power of disconnection is a fundamental building block in the thought system and identity that comes from it.
And the fear of such, along with the guilt of such, hold the such mind in terror and in impotence. All force is brought to bear on limiting such pain and loss along with all ingenuity of distraction, displacement, denial and disassociation.
This is a sketch of human conditioning but not human being. Waking up to the true nature of the sickness also wakes the cure - because the problem is uncovered where it is - instead of being 'solved' where it is not - in displacement and projection of our guilt and fear upon others or upon situations.
The cure is not of further exercise of sickness and the further investment in forcing resolutions upon externalisations designed to keep 'the problem' protected by solving it externally. But must discern and desist from employing such thinking as sees disconnection from being as survival and self validating identity in struggle.
Then what? Then see what is revealed and restored as a truly living communication of true purpose.
What is our true purpose? Don't look to thinking for an answer but let being truly human express a presence of a unified will.
All things express their foundation. We do not create our being - but in creative cooperation with the law of our being we create the good, the beautiful and the true - because such is free from self hatred and shame and is of a kind. Be One of a Kind!

Humanity a plague on the Earth?
Sir David Attenborough, Naturalist And Filmmaker, Calls Humanity 'A Plague On The Earth'
Comment:
I invite you to pause a moment and reflect that it is not humans that are the sickness - but our thinking. And the false identities that arise from such thinking.
There are parasites that are known to influence the mind and behaviour of their host so as to act in their interest and not the host's.
So it is with the mindset that has cuckolded our true thinking and turned us into blind 'getters' that make a prodigal wastrel - and wasteland - in place of a cooperative participant in the Presence of Life - of which we are expressions - whether we think so or not.
Part of the nature of these thoughts that are not true connected thinking, is that they steal our (awareness and appreciation of) Soul in exchange for empty promises that then enslave us and deal death through our hands and machinations - including that of the the host (ourselves). This pattern of thinking seeds itself in the new generations and doesn't care what side of a conflict it takes as long as conflict persists. For these thoughts are of course conflict-thoughts or wishes, given priority over true relation.
This 'self' that seems to be an organic survival mechanism is indeed 'going forth and multiplying' - for such is the Nature of Life and indeed Mind - only that which is being seeded is a kind of thinking that is divorced from the heart - and indeed believes itself successfully separated from the Life - of which it is expression and which is its true source and nature - even while a virtual layer of thought and experience is engaged and lived as if IT was Real.
One of the 'answers' that conflicted-thinking offers - if it cannot see a way to survive and prevail in its illusion of independence and control - is suicide. This can be done in all manner of ways - and the deceptive ingenuity of conflicted thinking is in one knowing not what one actually does. This is because in any clarity of awareness the costs of following such thinking is deeply painful and insanely meaningless. So distractions that effectively filter, distort or shut off awareness are absolutely required as defence from such felt distress. Where the miracle and wonder of life breaks through, or is accepted, it is compartmentalized and inhibited in its transfer of wisdom to the whole.
The Good News is that regardless of being so poor in Spirit - are you all blessed. For what you thought to have lost - or choose to believe never existed - or has nothing to do with YOU - is simply covered over - (you got it!) - with a false thinking of a sense of self that is made to look away from its source and 'survive' as a separated life - in competition with Life and all lives.
I invite you to pause of your desire to rid the Earth of humans or of yourself and instead rid yourself of this mindset. Not by struggle or righteous crusade - not in some movement of idealistic problem solving, but simply by learning to recognize the thoughts that come from a fearful and manipulative mask - and desisting from employing them or investing further in them.
If you think not - the 'Bridegroom comes'. Why? - because there is that of your true Nature that rises to your awareness of itself when it is no longer suppressed. And it rises in ways that are appropriate and encouraging and practical to your real life. The one that is your real presence and passion expressing.
Nothing that I say is really new - but this fear-thinking is old tired and stale. Perhaps long ago it was a kind of game for thrills, but over time we became identified and addicted to it. Addicted until - that is - a different foundation appears where the false one had always seemed to be!
Look at your mind - your thinking - your defence and masking mechanisms - and see if you don't find the seeds of everything in the world within you that you judge against. This requires that you can allow yourself to be honestly aware in the midst of conditioned triggers of opinion, predjudice and self protective denials or assertions.
Now we are the one that chooses to subscribe - no matter how much power of belief we give to our thoughts. Yes we are conditioned - and also we are rooted in an Awareness that we do not create - nor really control. The illusion of control was one of the empty promises whereby we 'turned away' from the context and dimension of our feeling being. And still is.
This egocentric aspect is not evil so much as imaginary. But when You identify with asserting or opposing it, there is no communicating with you until your bubble either pops or becomes porous to the depth of You.
This writing does not set out to convince you of God - a unified conscious meaning that simply cannot Be translated or rendered into conflict-thinking - because such thinking is designed to blanket. (blank it). You have to metaphorically 'put the gun down' and calm in order to feel and know what is truly natural to you - and THEN you will be restored to your innate capacity to feel your way in a wholeness of being… in a tangible and communicated presence of life. Everything functions now in a way that all the kings horses and all the kings men - can NEVER put together.
This IS a 'prodigal moment' in our times. Trade in your toxic debt for true Relation. This has nothing to do with believing in the head - excepting to question ALL of the believing of the head and bring it to true account in the discernment of the heart. This does NOT require a Phd - just an honest willingness to uncover truth beyond mutually self serving definitions.
Thinking needs to extend out-from a truly relational connectedness - or communioned-ness. Expressing real relation.
The call to rest has never been more urgent. Don't just do something - stand there!

Undefended Presence and inhibition
Buddha at the gas pump is a site sharing interviews with people who in one way or another have awakening or enlightenment experience.
I wrote the article below after watching and enjoying the interview with Francis Bennett.
A living communication is not defined or contained in the forms of its appearance. It is felt wholeness of being - inclusive because love is shared rather than defined and rejected.
Francis demonstrates an undefendedness to love and therefore an open hearted communication that is not caught up in trying to be correct, nor identifying with a teaching role, or teaching form and practice.
He is perhaps still embarrassed to trust the fullness of loves expression through him - to let its totally take him, but is not embarrassed by his inhibitions - as he is in the way of letting rather than of attempting to become - and this is the extension of trust - being exactly as he is without engaging the 'mind' that attempts to add or take away to make its self of story prevail in its attention.
The release of entertainment allows a true hearted engagement. We are all in receipt of the totality of love and are all in the way of accepting or inhibiting its truth as our own - along with all that is.
The principle inhibition is of a withdrawal into thoughts that seem to define or justify a separateness or partiality to love. That 'names' without sharing the nature.
A society of mutually agreed definitions supports the inhibition to love by joining without love, without sharing in true presence. Though this then takes on the appearance and behaviours we call the world, it is always founded on reaction of a misplaced or mistaken attempt to get love within a form that denies its already existence and the corresponding shame and pain of perceived abandonment or believed retaliation reinforces the identification with lack and loss.
This is where the remembering of one who is undefended to love, shines into the one who was actively forgetting and wakens to that love is already here, already true, already the source, nature and condition of you. This re establishes a conscious realized foundation in place of a highly complex defence mechanism with which love's expression became identified as a 'surviving fragment' of love's loss amidst disintegration experience of fear, and density of guilt.
Accepting true authority inherently releases the mentality that usurps and divides, by sharing true purpose in place of conflicting wishes. Nothing CAN substitute for love… Love's remembrance is living presence - and this is ours to accept and share but not to make, package or re-brand. Although we are free to work with a copy in image and use it to teach and learn the prodigal lesson.
Our fundamental teaching-learning aspect in the awakening is to share what is freely and lovingly given to a true willingness to receive. This transforms and translates a world of grievance and attack into a perfect curriculum for awakening to love's being the totality of all that is ever truly present.
The call for love comes from the mind that thinks it has become as it thinks to be and does not know what it does or what it truly desires. It may seem to be justification for judgement and rejection to a mind that equates these things with personal salvation, but even a glimpse of love's presence, accepted, offers an alternative perception in which their call is yours! - and through awakening the answer of love's recognition in you, is your joy and gratitude extended to them and to all, silently and directly - and in form as the movement of love prompts and guides.

'Brighter than a full moon': The biggest star of 2013
Comments on the above article in the Independent soon took on a science vs Religion flavour. My comment might offer a unifying basis for both views.

It is easy to see that a naked wonder of being is lost to interpretations backed by personal investments. The experience of awe is not due unto any interpretations nor the mind that can make such interpretations - but is entirely due unto the Fact of Being Itself - which is absolutely beyond any capacity of any mind to map or define or effect or control.
The mind accords orders of significance and magnitude to elements of its experience and 'creates' structures of 'meaning' for itself amidst what is essentially timeless and infinite.
Scientists tend to map and measure, define and control the world considered to be outside the self or outside the realm of a direct capacity to control. This activity is a specialized version of what the separating mind attempts upon its experience - which it takes for reality.
What is significant about our experience apart from what the rules of our own mind establish? Significance is unalloyed in any experience of true existence -That you Are, or That anything Is. This is thoughtless and direct experience - not of things outside us - but of a wholeness of which we are one with - and not apart from.
The appearance of a new light in the night sky cannot but pause the mind of its routines, and this allows in alternate possibilities that the routine mind blocks by definition.
Wonder opens a different source than anything our thinking can create. One can make religion out of this, but be careful it doesn't cover our eyes instead of opening them!

Computer interface, cultural values and conditioning?
I responded to Wired.com's article:

I see it as an opportunity to talk about the almost invisible layer of architecture and conditioning that communicates and inculcates cultural values - or indeed the lack thereof! So this isn't just about Mac - but a perspective on the extension of our mind - into virtual digital realities.

Without making this a personality thing, I feel this article is missing the trend in computing that has largely abandoned an educated responsible user interface and opted for a dumber, entertaining, utility front end. There are all sorts of issues in this that are very worthy of discussion and acknowledgement but 'news' itself has also succumbed to the same template approach of dumbed and entertaining fodder.
Issues of control and communication are fundamental to a user interface.
There is a lot more at stake and involved than consumer edification in all of this for it is symptomatic of the prevailing culture or mentality of our times.
Computing has in a very short time, become a layer of both environment and an enabler and a lens of communication and function.
There are lots of things about the mind that are 'invisible' to those who simply 'use' or identify at the front end or surface. This is also true of the digital network - which is an extension of our lower mind.
I say lower because, the conscious qualities of a living presence - such as insight, discernment, recognition, honour and gratitude, transcend and precede the programmed and programming mind.
We collectively have drifted into identifying ever more deeply with 'control mind' - and are losing the call and the culture of our truly Conscious being.
That which identifies control as safety, order and a self justified specialness of self, is blind to the truly Conscious and only sees it insofar as it can exploit it.
Meeting in shared purpose is very different from forcing outcomes. The quality of trust is extended and embodied.
Our architecture reflects our values - as does all that we embody. But it also inculcates those values as a subliminal conditioning.
Billions of us are spending a lot of time in this new 'environment' (regardless of the particular brand). I call for a conscious discernment as to the choices that collectively we are each and all making - because what we make tends to make us in its own image.
To sell a virtual world as a distraction for a desecration of our living relationship, (the Life), may provide meds against despair and chaos - but it takes another step away and ultimately only delays addressing and correcting the core issues that set up the experience of conflict, distrust, dissonance and dis-ease.
I was drawn to the Mac in the 90s in part because I felt a machine being fitted to Man rather than man being fitted to the machine. And in a way that made the machine more 'human-friendly' and creatively fun and less clunky, ugly and conformed to corporate business edicts. But that core principle was abandoned with Mac OSX - or at least adulterated and compromised to a marketing mentality. (And there are historical reasons which account for why).
The blindness leading up to the financial collapse is as nothing to the blindness of our passive acceptance of the cultural developments of our time. It is not as a conspiracy theorist or doomsdayer that I write - but simply in witness for a Conscious appreciation of the Life that we share (whether we like it or know it or not), and in a desire to wake up (from a dead end) to a life more abundant.
Its not just a product, its not just an operating system. It is mind expressing itself - consciously or unconsciously; wisely or chaotically.
Much that seems wise for the short term reaps a bitter harvest. We have to do more than think-react. (Or should I say less? Yes we have to calm down a bit, connect with our being and feel more).

The stripper pops her balloons one by one
The provocatively - or stupidly - titled Guardian article:

I write not as wit or repartee, entertainment or to have or voice an opinion so much as to embody a listening to the meanings and feeling of idea that is beneath the world we so easily and readily engage. In this way I would undress (deconstruct) the mind of its story - and if that appeals to you, you'll read a bit more and if not, you'll enjoy your story.
Fantasy, sexual or otherwise, is a private affair. A separating affair - that seems to be something it is not - otherwise it would be freely alive rather than using YOUR aliveness for ITS enactment. ITS fulfilment is like a drug, that hits but doesnt really fulfil and only needs repeating. The process of which hollows out or depletes joy and desensitizes feeling to ever shallower conditioned reaction regardless of the self-justifying mentality of the fantasy self that is being 'explored'. (This is different where the fantasy is in no way confused with reality - but the appetite for fantasy dissipates in true presence).
To use another for fantasy purposes who is in some sense willing to be used in exchange for using you sets up a mutual agreement that runs in place of honouring the true relational reality. (In context of a truly loving relational sense, all things - including fantasy - serve a different purpose of an awakening intimacy of being. Intimacy is not bodies - but oneness. To have the form without the Spirit is hollow show - but to have the Spirit will always have tangible effect - though the effect is not where the focus is.
Mutually using each other as consensual relationships isnt as innocent as it likes to think it is - for as soon as the Life in the other is not honoured, they are seen as a means to an end - and in that purpose, the mind is actually at war with the other so as to manipulate an outcome to its own personal agenda and will use the forms of kindness as a mask as much as it will use an overtly coercive intent such as instilling guilt or fear and taking advantage of the traction that that gives the mind of control.
Normal can be anything - deception, slavery and war and appalling inhumanity can be normal in that they can be pervasive and unchallenged.
If an addiction can be normalised, then the addict doesnt have to meet the dissonance of finding their perspective dictated by a coercive or tyrannous intent.
Ultimately, the exploring of a fantasy must realize that it costs Reality - and the Reality is infinitelty fulfilling in ways that are ever new and this Alive - and of which the little mind in its little private show cannot even imagine.
Everything is permissable to Reality - in that there is no limit on thought and action and effect spring from thought. God doesnt censor your freedom to think. But not everything is helpful to you and you (as we all) learn there are consequences implicit in every thought.
It isnt that there is a you with a free will perfecting your self (or not!) - but that the thought you accept and validate as yours by living out from it is actively filtering and defining your identification and in a sense, creates your experience out of a mutuality of thinking.
This deception or fantasy is dancing for you now as a sense of a reality that fascinates and distracts as if to become something or indeed escape something.
I watched a woman walking her dog along a beach once. the dog chased every single pebble thrown out to sea in utter futility - and yet avidly, with glee! The woman herself was bored - it went on out of sight without let-up.
Boredom must be one of the wonders of the Universe. Do you thing Angels queue to see? The power of thought is not as we think it - but as it thinks us. To put power aside like an old toy is to let love come out to play. Was there all along but I just didn't notice, recognize or feel able to allow.

Mutually using each other as consensual relationships isnt as innocent as it likes to think it is - for as soon as the Life in the other is not honoured, they are seen as a means to an end - and in that purpose, the mind is actually at war with the other so as to manipulate an outcome to its own personal agenda and will use the forms of kindness as a mask as much as it will use an overtly coercive intent such as instilling guilt or fear and taking advantage of the traction that that gives the mind of control.
Normal can be anything - deception, slavery and war and appalling inhumanity can be normal in that they can be pervasive and unchallenged.
If an addiction can be normalised, then the addict doesnt have to meet the dissonance of finding their perspective dictated by a coercive or tyrannous intent.
Ultimately, the exploring of a fantasy must realize that it costs Reality - and the Reality is infinitelty fulfilling in ways that are ever new and this Alive - and of which the little mind in its little private show cannot even imagine.
Everything is permissable to Reality - in that there is no limit on thought and action and effect spring from thought. God doesnt censor your freedom to think. But not everything is helpful to you and you (as we all) learn there are consequences implicit in every thought.
It isnt that there is a you with a free will perfecting your self (or not!) - but that the thought you accept and validate as yours by living out from it is actively filtering and defining your identification and in a sense, creates your experience out of a mutuality of thinking.
This deception or fantasy is dancing for you now as a sense of a reality that fascinates and distracts as if to become something or indeed escape something.
I watched a woman walking her dog along a beach once. the dog chased every single pebble thrown out to sea in utter futility - and yet avidly, with glee! The woman herself was bored - it went on out of sight without let-up.
Boredom must be one of the wonders of the Universe. Do you thing Angels queue to see? The power of thought is not as we think it - but as it thinks us. To put power aside like an old toy is to let love come out to play. Was there all along but I just didn't notice, recognize or feel able to allow.
