Hypocrites means actors. Where speech is out of accord with action and the actor is clearly incongruous  BUT PERSISTS IN ACT AS IF THEY BELIEVE THEY ARE AS THEY PRESENT THEMSELVES TO BE.

So if you want to be a 'someone' and you associate in and acquire the external forms or behaviours of 'someone' and present them with skill or force so as to pass off as real - you are still a no one in the wish to escape or cover over the lack.

This masking over of a self rejection or self judgement in unworthiness that seeks to add to itself, so as to become 'real', is a false basis for identity.

When others are acting out a strategy for acceptance or passing off as something they are not, they may not show up because they fit your own self-reinforcement patterns. And even if they show up and you judge them, you may then be using judging them as a mitigation or diversion from judging yourself.

But in terms of recognizing relationship and opening communication without deceit or coercion, rather than being phished, the masking is clearly a social coding running over hidden undercurrent - and it learning to listen here that reveals what is really being said, offered or uncovered in ourself with them.

I prefer the idea that science, philosophy or spiritual enquiry uncovers the 'already true' and grounds it in their own world by living from it and sharing it - which includes acting from its true acceptance rather than seeking to marketise or weaponize it as 'narrative control'.

The idea of 'creating knowledge' reads as a total self contradiction to me. But if you have something to say, are moved to say it and are in the place and timing to say it - then the mind can serve the situation as an expression of being.

The idea, 'dont push the river' comes to mind, and also a line from a movie about dancing; 'dont move until you feel the movement!'.

I wonder how people get on with JP - who has held through difficulty in uncovering a sense of worth from which to live - not exactly fearlessly - but uncowed by fear and open-eyed to its nature.

He is witnessing for a love that is not weak, and an ability to meet the world honourably in willingness for communication. But growing a like quality in ourself is not just 'information' by which to counter false thinking or embody the right to speech in ways that uphold freedom and responsibility rather than freedom from responsibility under hidden tyranny of 'protection'.

Finding and being true to yourself - rather than being run as a bot-net via phishing ruse and identity theft, requires responsibility for thought and this cannot mererly be self-referenceing thought derivatives - but an actual 'territory' that in a sense is forever nameless and formless - yet is the core nature of your experience - BEFORE your mind clothes or translates it into concepts.

Hence the need or true desire to know is something alive and stirring You - that is calling you into focus - perhaps through crisis of one kind or another - and so there is a reaching outside to comfort zone of the 'known' or indeed an evaporation of 'knowing' and a process of seeking and finding that is not merely problem solving - but a shifting of perspective - whatever the problem was.

Can you tell when another is with you, seeing you, listening and effectively valuing you without placing demands on you to be who you are not? I see that everyone CAN feel and notice this. Thus you can tell when people are not really present in what they say or do - and may be using the forms of endearment to separate off with, a smile to disarm and a demeanour that withholds.

Can you tell when you are doing this?

I feel the uncovering of the masks of others is the basis to recognize our own - and then come from a true place according to what the situation gives such a willingness.

The search for authenticity - like the search for anything - can become a mask or blindspot to the nature of the predicate of our searching. Because the ego of mimicry and artifice can and does learn to adopt any form as a means to present what is wished - rather than embody what is truly willed. But they all send themselves up - such as constantly asserting how 'passionate' they are - as if passion does not communicate itself automatically.

Of course the hollow do not know and are not in touch or connected with anything real - but are running a model and investing in it. Extending a core sense of worth to others for that they are - and not for what they do - or withheld for what they fail to do - is living to that which is worthy and capable of learning, in us all.

To give no time and not be entangled in hypocritical baiting is to not register it as genuine in the forms it takes. Many questions are simply statements or baiting by which to be phished.

To thine own self be true - and it follows... that thou can be false to no man. This works the other way. You cant cheat an honest man, because he gains an education. Grow self-honesty in your own life and all else will shift. All of this is 'waking up' from thinking that runs blind AS IF YOU.
